A Tribute to Cal and Nancy Hawthorne

Iā€™m lucky to have come from a family with roots in advertising.

Early in his career, my father Cal worked in advertising sales for the Richmond Times Dispatch, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, and Long Island Suffolk Sun. In 1956, he married Nancy and soon after accepted a job as founding advertising director for the Fort Lauderdale News/Sun Sentinel. In 1968, Cal and Nancy started a small Fort Lauderdale ad agency ā€“ aptly named Hawthorne Advertising ā€“ which grew to become a leading South Florida ad agency and thrived for decades until their retirement. Growing up, I remember watching how much they enjoyed the business of helping clients succeed and how much fun they had along the way.
